Position Summary: 

The Portfolio Manager manages a team responsible for the assigned customer relationships contained within a portfolio consisting of factoring, ledgered asset-based lines and asset-based loans provided too small to middle market commercial clients. This role is responsible for managing credit department staff, underwriting new business transactions, managing a portfolio of relationships and is responsible to enforce covenants, credit policy requirements, perform annual reviews, risk ratings, etc. The Portfolio Manager is accountable for trending and risk assessment briefings of the portfolio within monthly management portfolio reviews. 

The PM must anticipate and proactively address customer needs while properly managing staff, collateral and funding availability through sound analysis of account trends. The PM will prepare and present credit summaries and memos with a demonstrated ability to create high-quality reports and presentations, including analyzing financial statements and the credit worthiness of clients and their account debtors and to perform other customer interface activities as needed. This position is expected to meet face to face with clients on occasion spending approximately ten to twenty percent (10-20%) of their time traveling to meet customers and to perform on-going due diligence. This position is expected to understand their client’s industries and to facilitate discussions and financial coaching to ensure a client’s financial needs are being addressed while appropriately managing credit risks. A PM is expected to professionally represent Equify and to further promote additional Equify services deemed an appropriate fit for the customer.

Key Roles / Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary contact for assigned customers, direct interaction with business owners and key decision makers of assigned customers and prospects.
  • Monitor assigned customer’s compliance with all credit facility legal documentation.
  • Review and approve advance requests from assigned customers in accordance with collateral availability, credit status, debtor purchase limits and approval authority.
  • Ensure minimal over-advances exist in the assigned portfolio.  When necessary, complete credit requests for over-advances in a timely basis in accordance with established credit policies.
  • Ensures assigned customers understand and conform to required collateral reporting procedures and frequencies.
  • Ensure thorough and timely reviews of required credit reports (AR reporting or borrowing base calculations, supporting documentation, etc.) by Client Associate and Operations Specialists for assigned portfolio.
  • Maintain in-depth understanding of assigned customer’s business and industry, including eligibility parameters, legal and documentation requirements, collateral perfection, financial performances, potential loss exposures, industry trends, specific business issues, and other factors, to mitigate potential credit risk exposures.
  • Provide appropriate and timely credit action recommendations to prevent and mitigate potential exposures.
  • Complete timely review of financial statements, collateral reports, verification results, trend analyses, and other relevant information to identify potential risk exposures.
  • Complete required customer risk ratings on a timely basis.  Recommend and submit potential changes to risk ratings based on recent developments and performance trends.
  • Complete required credit requests, supporting calculations, and related legal documentation for all credit modifications, annual reviews, and over-advances for assigned portfolio on a timely basis.
  • Ensure client relationships are supported by properly documented legal agreements and collateral liens are appropriately perfected in accordance with credit policies.
  • When necessary, recommend write-downs and charge-offs based on estimated losses on a timely basis.
  • Recommend modifications to reporting requirements and facility structures based on financial performances and risk ratings for assigned customers.
  • Ensure all required internal reports are completed and submitted on a timely basis in accordance with required due dates and policy.
  • Responsible for funding closing process upon initial credit approvals for assigned new customers.  Tasks include: coordinate with legal counsel to document the new relationship via appropriate legal agreements in accordance with the approved terms,  complete all customer identification procedures (background checks, OFAC searches, etc.) in accordance with credit policies; coordinate set up proper administration of a customer’s credit facility including control of cash receipts; complete required client servicing, introductions of customer to appropriate credit personnel, set up new customers in operating system, establish appropriate reporting procedures, and coordinate reporting and advance procedures; and complete loan closing checklists and oversee initial funding.
  • Contribute to profitability through timely assessments of default interest, collection of required fees, proactive renewal review, and marketing of other available services and products to assigned customers.
  • Conduct business that upholds a high level of ethical standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years’ experience in asset-based lending, factoring, commercial lending or related banking field.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in client interacting role. 
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of acceptable asset based lending and factoring industry standards and practices in the areas of client relationship management and portfolio management.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the use of financial statements and budgets.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate and interface with all levels of internal and/or external personnel.
  • Demonstrates ability to address complaints and solve problems promptly.
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with all Microsoft Office application including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a business or related field.
  • Additional progressive experience in client relationship and portfolio management in commercial lending.
  • Active involvement in professional organizations.

Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Positions self to install equipment, including under desks.
  • Moves throughout the building to access files.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions. 
  • Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions. 
  • Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed. 
  • Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
